From August 11–13, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Rochester proudly welcomed young athletes for the John Wallace/MVP Basketball Camp Back-to-School Basketball Clinic, a three-day experience that combined basketball instruction with mentorship, teamwork, and lessons that extended far beyond the game.

Led by former NBA player John Wallace and the dedicated coaches from MVP Basketball Camp, participants sharpened their basketball fundamentals while learning the value of discipline, perseverance, communication, and leadership. Throughout the clinic, campers were encouraged to challenge themselves, support one another, and approach every opportunity with confidence and a positive attitude.

While basketball was the foundation of the clinic, the experience also emphasized the importance of whole-person wellness. Campers learned that success begins with taking care of both their physical and mental health. Through movement, encouragement, and meaningful conversations with coaches and mentors, participants gained tools to build resilience, manage challenges, and develop healthy habits they can carry into the new school year and beyond.

The clinic also served as a reminder of the power of sports to create opportunity. Athletics provide more than exercise—they help young people build confidence, form positive relationships, and discover the skills they need to succeed in school, their communities, and their future careers.

We are grateful to John Wallace, the entire MVP Basketball Camp team, our staff, volunteers, and community partners for investing their time and expertise in our youth. Their commitment helped create an engaging, supportive environment where every participant was encouraged to grow both on and off the court.

At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Rochester, we believe every young person deserves opportunities to learn, lead, and thrive. Experiences like the John Wallace/MVP Basketball Camp Back-to-School Basketball Clinic help ensure our members head into the school year stronger, more confident, and ready to reach their full potential.
